Prof. Dr. Thomas Dohmen is the director of ROA. He is also the coordinator of ROA’s fundamental research programme, which supports the commissioned research organized along three research lines: Dynamics of the Labour Market, Education and Occupational Careers, and Training and Employment. The coordinators of the research lines are respectively Dr. Frank Cörvers, Prof. Dr. Rolf van der Velden, and Prof. Dr. Andries de Grip.
Within this framework studies are being carried out and supported by a dedicated scientific and support staff, consisting of about 35 employees.

In conducting education and labour market research, ROA cooperates closely with the Economics Department at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE), in particular with section Economics II, where Prof. Dr. Thomas Dohmen holds a position as full professor of Education and the Labour Market. Prof. Dr. Andries de Grip (Firm-Internal and External Human Capital Formation and the Labour Market) and Prof. Dr. Rolf van der Velden (Education and Occupational Career) also hold a position as full professor at the Economics Department.
The aim of the cooperation with the Economics Department, in both research and teaching, is to bolster research efforts and to improve the coherence and quality of research. To further enhance and stimulate this cooperation a new chair is created in Labour Economics and Social Policy, for which Prof. Dr. Lex Borghans has been appointed. In the field of teaching, members of ROA's research staff are involved in several courses offered by the Economics Department in the bachelor and master phase at SBE, but also at the University College Maastricht and the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance. Moreover, staff members of ROA are involved in the supervision of research traineeships and master theses.

Administratively, ROA has been placed under the Limburg Institute for Business and Economic Research (LIBER). The objectives of this foundation are to support and manage the activities of staff of the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) in the field of subsidized and contract research.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Dohmen is Board member of the LIBER Board, which consists of academic staff of SBE. Chairman of the LIBER Board is the Dean of SBE.
